Getting there, and getting back
Progreso to Chichén Itzá
About 160 km inland from Progreso, roughly two hours each way by road. No ferry, which makes it materially safer than the same trip from Cozumel.
- Three and a half to five hours of driving on a port day.
- Mérida is an hour closer and is the more realistic independent trip from Progreso.
Most ships also sell a coach excursion to
Chichén Itzá. However you travel, being back aboard before all-aboard
is your own arrangement to make — we publish the journey, not your
sailing. Your guide plays either way, and it is yours to keep.
Long enough that it only fits a long call. If you pre-book a transfer, get the driver's return time in writing before you leave the port.
-
105–140 min
Private transfer, organised tour or long-distance bus south past Mérida and east toward Valladolid.
1.8–2.3 hours each way
Plan your return against your ship's all-aboard time, which is on your
daily programme. It is earlier than the departure time, and if you are
coming back by tender the last tender leaves earlier still.

Progreso to Mérida
Merida is 33 km south of Progreso on a straight, fast road. Of the inland options in this catalogue this is the least demanding.
- The Progreso pier is long and a shuttle runs its length; allow for that at both ends of the day.
- Auto Progreso buses run frequently from the Calle 62 terminal in Merida, but the last convenient return is earlier than the timetable suggests on a Sunday.

Journey times are typical, not guaranteed, and nothing here is a schedule.
Your ship's all-aboard time is the only one that counts, it is not the same
as the departure time, and it is not something we can look up for you — it
varies by line and by port and it is printed on your daily programme.
If a connection slips, turn around.
